Gen Edmund Kirby Smith - Florida native, West Point graduate and Commander of the Army of the Trans-Mississippi. He resigned the US Army as a major and joined the Confederacy at the same rank. He was promoted to Lt Col the same day. Cut off from the rest of the Confederacy and forced to wage their own war, the ATM was referred to as "Kirby Smithdom".
