These two notes had a 1 added to the 7 & 8 plens to make them appear as a much rarer 17 & 18 plens. At first I thought these this were bad alteration attempts as these are Second Series notes which we now know were never printed with a 17 or 18 plen. I then realized that the alteration could be deliberate as the contemporary con artist could claim even a greater scarcity for the "rare" plens on Second Series notes. It is interesting that the 17 alteration is in brown ink and the 18 is in black ink.
I bought them years apart but I am selling them as a set as I do not wish to see them separated - ruins the story.
