The "double ratification" makes this note part of the "Great Rarities" collection.
Normally I am perturbed when a dealer writes or stamps something on a note. I will let the JH Childrey stamp on the reverse slide. The stamp is contemporary.
Childrey was a druggist and numismatic dealer in Richmond in the 1870s & 1880s. He died in 1898.
According to Frank Van Valen " His overprints occur on numerous CSA notes of varying denominations and types, as well as on obsolete notes from across the south. Childrey’s overprints are also found with varying style and address changes in the advertising."
