#0259 - T39 CR 290 PF 5 - August 23 Date - Possibly Unique
Almost all T39's are dated between May 5th & August 15th. There are a very few that are known to be dated September 12th and they command a large cost premium.
This is one of only two T39's I have ever seen dated in August after the 15th (Pierre Fricke concurs). If anyone can shed more light on the subject, please send me an email.
A review of over 800 T40's in an auction archive found quite a number dated August 23rd. All are in a serial number range either side of 38,000 and almost all with the same Walston & Bell signatures. The handwriting of the dates and serial numbers are consistent with this note.
Are there other T39's dated August 23rd ? This note has serial number 37933. I found serial numbers 37921 & 37947 (T40's). Logically, this leftover T39 got mixed in with some T40's being signed and there exists the possibility that 24 more may have also. That remains to be seen.
Unfortunately, this one commanded a premium price also.
