Keatinge & Ball facing in - Blue green - J Whatman watermark. Until this note surfaced, Fricke listed the finest known to be a F-VF-CC ( net F after deducting a half grade for the cut cancel ) . This note is a uncancelled solid F, and pretty choice for the grade, making it tied for the top spot on the condition census.
The watermark is faint. You can make out the "AN" rather easily in the basic scan. In the color enhanced scan, you can make out J WHAT_AN . In the greyscale scan you can see the 1862 in the center of the note.
I would rather that the watermark could be seen from a running horse, but if that were the case I probably would not have had a chance to buy it.
One of only 5 known, it definitely merits a place in the collection.
