A really interesting counterfeit. George Tremmel's book lists the 298 to occur only on Ab, Ad & Ah plates. This is on an Aa plate. The note also sports a bogus Montgomery issuance stamp. Again Tremmel discusses the fraudulent stamp to exist on CT 41's but not on CT 40's. One other comment - In discussing the Montgomery stamp, George states that there is no difference between the bogus stamp & the real stamp. That is not true - there is one subtle difference. The bogus stamp has a period behind ALA reading "ALA.". The real Montgomery stamp has no period following "ALA". Only the nicks on the upper & lower borders keep this note from being an AU+.
